Í tilefni af alþjóðlegum degi jökla, sem er þann 21. mars ár hvert bjóðum við þér og þínum á opnun ljósmyndasýningarinnar The Glacier Project föstudaginn 13. mars.
Dagurinn er tileinkaður vitundarvakningu um mikilvægi jökla fyrir umhverfið, ferskvatnsbirgðir jarðar og áhrif loftslagsbreytinga á þá. Markmiðið með deginum er að hvetja einstaklinga, stjórnvöld og vísindasamfélagið til að grípa til aðgerða til að vernda þessa viðkvæmu náttúruauðlind.
Að sýningunni standa hollensku listamennirnir Merel Klomp og Elmar Janse með stofnendur listastúdíósins Encritre í Rotterdam. Þau munu sýna verk sín á meðan á listamannadvöl þeirra stendur hjá Arctic Canvas á Hellnum.
Flest verkin á sýningunni voru unnin á Íslandi, þar sem tvíeykið skrásetti bráðnandi ís, fléttað bræðsluvatn og síbreytilegt landslag með bæði kyrrmyndum og hreyfimyndum. Stærra verkefni þeirra nær einnig til ferða þeirra að jöklum í Frakklandi, Noregi og víðar.
Með hljóðlátum ljóðrænum blæ, ígrundaðri myndbyggingu og umhverfisvænu sjónarhorni leitast Janse og Klomp ekki aðeins við að sýna landslag, heldur einnig að vekja aðdáun, íhugun og dýpri virðingu fyrir náttúrunni.

We’re thrilled to invite you to the opening of Dutch photographers and filmmakers Merel Klomp and Elmar Janse and their exhibition, The Glacier Project. At the National Park Centre in Hellissandur, Snæfellsnes. They will exhibit during their artist residency stay at @arcticcanvas, inviting you to experience the sublime beauty and fragile reality of Europe’s glaciers.
Opening Friday, March 13th at 4 PM, everyone welcome!
Most of the works in the exhibition were created in Iceland, where the duo documented melting ice, braided meltwater, and shifting terrains through both still and moving imagery.
Their broader project also includes journeys to glaciers in France, Norway, and beyond.
Through quiet poetry, considered composition, and an environmental lens, Janse and Klomp aim not just to depict landscapes, but to foster awe, reflection, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
As a tribute to their magnificence and vulnerability, the exhibition reveals landscapes that inspire wonder through fleeting light, rare ice formations, and intimate perspectives.
The exhibition will be on view from March 13th until March 31st.
