Saxhóll is a 40 metre high, picturesque crater. There are steps leading up to the top, so it’s quite easy to walk up and enjoy the view over the lava fields, the sea and Snæfellsjökull Glacier. It also has a compass rose.

The Saxhóll Crater Walking Trail was selected for four awards in 2017-2018: the DV Reykjavík Cultural Awards in Iceland; the Nordic Architecture Fair Award in Gothenburg; the Icelandic Design Awards; and the Rosa Barba Landscape Awards, which the project won in September 2018.

The crater is extremely sensitive to trampling, so it is important to follow the hiking trails and not go beyond the trails and viewing areas.
