In the olden days, many busy tracks lay at the foot of the glacier. One of them was Efstivegur, which leads to the foot of Snæfellsjökull Glacier. An 11km marked section of this old route lies between Beruvíkurhraun and Skeiðsandur.
Shorter sections run from Háahraun to Purkhólar (4km), and from Purkhólar to Lónland in Beruvíkurhraun (4.5km).
