INNI / INSIDE – Guðrún Arndís Tryggvadóttir

Welcome to the opening of Guðrún Arndís Tryggvadóttir’s exhibition INSIDE in the new National Park Center of Snæfellsjökull National Park in Hellissandi on Saturday the 13th. January at 14:00. The exhibition will last until the 21st. April 2024. It is open during the opening hours of the National Park Center or daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The stone kingdom, the material world, geohistorical quotes and cultural relics are the basic themes in a series of works that Guðrún has been working on for the past two years, and the exhibition INSIDE is the second in a series of exhibitions where everything revolves around time, what is invisible to us and actually beyond our understanding, where everything has a beginning and everything ends.

ONÍ, the first exhibition in the series, was held by Guðrún in Sesseljuhús in Sólheim last summer, but the next exhibitions will be across the country. After the exhibition in the national park centre, she will open an exhibition in the north-east. The exhibition in the national park center on Hellissandi, as well as other exhibitions in the series, are related to the environment and the location, both from the material reality and the cultural history.

In addition to being a highly educated visual artist, Guðrún is an entrepreneur in the field of environmental education, but she founded and ran the website Natturan.is / Nature.is for ten years. In addition, she has worked as a ranger for years, both in Þingvellir National Park and as chief ranger in Vatnajökull National Park. The connection to nature is well expressed in her last works, where interest in the land and the nature of the cycle of biological substances plays a large part in the research and processing methods for the creation of the large materialistic paintings.

Guðrún has received many awards for her work, both in the field of environmental issues and cultural communication, as well as for her art. Her works are based on a strong conceptual and often historical foundation, but she constantly experiments with new techniques and narrative methods in her art.

Guðrún will be a guide on the opening day. If the weather becomes bad, the opening date may have to be changed and it will then be advertised separately.
