Hellisandur in Snæfellsnes is the westernmost point on the northern side of the peninsula. It has a National Park Centre, a hotel, a campsite, restaurants and cafes, and museums.
There is a Maritime Museum in Hellissandur which has the oldest rowboat that exists in Iceland, Bliki, which was built in 1826.
The area between Hellisandur and Rif is a bird paradise and has one of the largest arctic tern nesting sites Iceland.
There are good walking trails around Hellissandur, and there is a paved path from Hellissandur to Ólafsvík.
More information about the National Park Center can be found here.
