Hike to the Edge of Snæfellsjökull Glacier

Join a park ranger for an enjoyable guided hike to the edge of Snæfellsjökull Glacier. We will follow an old mountain track leading up to the glacier while enjoying spectacular views and learning about the area along the way.

Meeting point: Eysteinsdalur, just past the junction leading to the glacier (see the image above).

Most of the hike follows an old track. The final 200–300 metres to the glacier's edge cross loose rocks and glacial moraine, so it is important to walk carefully and wear sturdy hiking boots.

We recommend bringing:

• Water

• A light snack

• Sturdy hiking boots

The round-trip hike takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes at a comfortable pace. Including stops for interpretation and to enjoy the scenery, please allow around 2.5–3 hours for the excursion.
