There are relics and signs of the fishing industry and settlements of past centuries all around Gufusk\u00e1lar. <\/p>\n\n<p>The landing sites were in the cove beneath the town. The main landing site was Gufusk\u00e1lav\u00f6r. It is 70 m long, cut through boulders and paved. There are deep grooves in the low, flat rock on the beach, a sign of the keels of the boats, which were dragged ashore there and pushed back out to sea   <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/snaefellsjokull.vinnugrunnur.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_3197-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2459\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3\/2;object-fit:cover\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>There are over 200 ancient huts, called fish storage huts, on the edge of B\u00e6jarhraun, above the main road, that were likely used to store and dry fish. The huts are top-built and fit very well into the lava landscape, so it&#8217;s difficult to spot them from the road.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/snaefellsjokull.vinnugrunnur.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_3200-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/snaefellsjokull.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_3200-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/snaefellsjokull.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_3200-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/snaefellsjokull.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_3200-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/snaefellsjokull.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_3200-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/snaefellsjokull.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_3200-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Irish place names are common in the area, for example, <strong>\u00cdrskrabrunnur<\/strong> (The Well of the Irish). The well is 16 steps down to the water.
